Dimensions: image (oval shape at 24.5 x 32 cm or 9 3/4 x 12 1/2 inch), paper (35.5 x 45.8 cm or 13 1/2 x 18 1/16 inch)

Condition:

         The condition of this small folio print is excellent [i.e., clear and clean image, strong and bright paper, vivid colors, full margins (very rare), no tear, and slight but even age toning]. It was printed on high quality heavy wove rag paper with a blank verso. Ample photos [front, back, details, and all the texts in margin] in high resolution are provided for your convenience of identification and judging its excellent quality independently.

Flaws to note: there is a minor (2 1/2 inch) inside crease at bottom right (not affecting the image), and some minor stains around the edge of on backside all as shown by the detailed photo.

Description:

        The classic hand colored lithography prints published by Currier and Ives hardly need any introduction. This rare small folio [with full margin] of the portrait of Martha Washington is very similar to Conningham and Gale catalog number of 4024 and 4370/4370 respectively but has subtle difference in details (note the exact wording and location of its credit lines plus the Currier & Ives number of 332). So, again as with George Washington this is a newly discovered (or at least not catalogued in Conningham and Gale) Currier & Ives print.
