in 1947 as a film starring Lana Turner, Donna Reed, Van Heflin and Richard Hart.



Elizabeth Goudge (born Elizabeth de Beauchamp Goudge) was an English author of novels, short 
stories and children's books. She was a best-selling author in both the UK and U.S. from the 1930s
through the 1970s. She won the Carnegie Medal for British children's books in 1946 for "The Little 
White Horse" which was J.K. Rowling's favorite book as a child and one of the few with a direct 
influence on her Harry Potter books.
