In the note Weis refers to his home being destroyed by fire. Based on the 1961 date, 
the fire to which he refers, is most probably the "Bel Air Fire ", November 6, 1961
that destroyed close to 500 Bel Air homes.

Don Weis was an American film and television director.

 He is best known for his some 120 television 
credits including work on such series as M*A*S*H, Ironside, It Takes a Thief, Twilight Zone, Happy Days,
 Hawaii Five-O.

 He won two Directors Guild of America Awards for television direction in 1956 and 1958.
