Description:
John Ogilby (1600 - 1676), a well-known British cartographer, was the first to publish an atlas dedicated to the roads of [England and Wales] exclusively. Beautifully hand colored, his road maps are instantly recognizable with its scroll-stripe pattern and were very useful to the travelers of the day. Decorated with a very nice cartouche and many compass roses, this current map [without the plate number , the first edition produced in 1675] was taken from his Britannia and it depicted the road from London to Barwick [in six strips] covering about 62 miles.
