It was printed on high quality heavy wove paper with a blank verso. Issued with a centerfold, there are some very minor stains along the edge of the margin and a tiny nicks at centerfold as shown by the detail photos. Ample photos in high resolution are presented for your convenience. Description: The most influential and beautiful historical atlas in the 19th century was perhaps the series by Karl von Spruner (1803 – 1892). Yet, with the collaboration of Dr. Theodor Menke (1819-1892), the heavily revised third edition of Spruner-Menke Hand-Atlas fur die Geschichte des Mittelalters und die neueren Zeit [Gotha: Justus Perthes, 1880], from which the current map was taken, with its exquisite hand coloring and its great craftsmanship and care for details, is arguably unraveled before and since. This very nice steel engraved map (Plate No. 14) depicting historical period 3rd to 4th century of Spain, Portugal, and Iberian Peninsula was from Spruner-Menke Hand-Atlas [Gotha: Justus Perthes1880]. With many insets [of Erste Niederlassungen Germanischer Volker in Hispaniae 411-420, Reich der Sueven, Vandalen und Westgothen 420-460, Reich der Westgothen unter Eurich (468-488) und Alarich II (488-570), and Reich der Ostgothen und der Westgothen zu Theoderich d. Grn. Zeit +562], important historical events were dated and marked all over the map. Details and historical accuracy aside, the map is aesthetically very appealing both for its composition and its very skilled hand coloring.
