      This beautiful print of two African Swifts is in excellent condition [i.e., clear and clean image, strong and bright paper, vivid colors, original full margins, no tear, and slight but even age toning]. It was printed on high quality woven paper with a blank verso. There are some very minor handling creases as shown by the detailed photo.  Ample photos [front, back, and details] in high resolution are provided for your convenience of identification and judging its excellent quality independently.

Description:

     Jean Gabriel Pretre (1800 - 1840) was one of the well-known ornithologists / bird illustrators of 19^th century. This current print was taken from the 1^st edition of his illustration for Voyage aux Indes-orientales published by Betrand in 1834. Very finely done with delicate hand coloring, the birds [with a modern name of cypselus pygargus and id. ambrosiacus] are widely distributed in around South African coast of Indian Ocean.
