A VERY SCARCE PLATE K 1d RED KANGAROO: "WEAKENED SHADE LINES FROM 'POS' OF POSTAGE DIAGONALLY DOWN TO LEFT FRAME" - UNLISTED ACSC - ADAMS, BELL & POPE PLATE POSITION KL35 - SCARCITY 8
The definitive reference for the 1d Red Kangaroo stamp by David Adams, Bill Bell and Greg Pope titled: "1d RED KANGAROO and MAP SERIES" (2004) lists this variety as:
"KL35 (SCARCITY 8): POS OF POSTAGE: A WEAKENING AROUND POS AND THEN SHADING LINES EXTENDING IN A SOUTHWEST DIRECTION TO THE INNER FRAME APPROXIMATELY 9 TO 10 LINES BELOW THE P".
This striking Red Kangaroo variety recurs at position KL35 ... that is ... as the 35th STAMP on the LEFT PANE of PLATE "K" (the last Upper Plate used for printing between June and July 1914). This variety is NOT listed in THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS" (ACSC 2025) which does list KL36, KL38 and KL49 on the Left Pane. Adams, Bell & Pope assign a Scarcity Level of 8 (on a scale from 1 to 10) to this marsupial. This is a scarce Plate K with very good perforations and centering. The ‘weakening’ to the below-left of P of POSTAGE is quite subdued (perhaps an early state), but the WEAKNESS towards the left frame is very clear. THIS PLATE K IS RARELY OFFERED.
