Scarce English translation of this text by the Russian mystic and Freemason, Ivan Lopukhin (1756-1816) originally published in 1798.  Lopukhin's work sets out his conception of the invisible spiritual church that exists beyond outward religion.  Self-denial, purification, surrender of will, spiritual rebirth, divine union, etc. are all discussed as paths to this "interior Church."  Waite's introduction draws connections between the mysticism of Lopukhin and Karl von Eckartshausen, Kabbalah, and other hermetic traditions.
