For sale Vintage Vageeswari 10x12 Inch Wooden Field Camera With Plate Holder, ULF. Vageeswari Field Cameras are beautiful hand made cameras, and have earned a cult following globally. The company "Vageeswari Camera Works" produced one of the finest field cameras for many years in India until they closed down more than 30 years ago. Camera measures a compact 3x14x14 inches when folded down, the glass screen measures 10x12 inches.

The rear standard can be switched horizontally or vertically ideal for landscape or portrait shooting. Camera is perfect for landscape, group, portrait, architectural shooting and also extreme close up. The fittings are of nickel plated solid brass except for the aluminium knurled knobs. The bellows is original with some corner pinhole leaks. It extends to 23 inches from 13 inches and compresses to minimum 4.5 inches. Although the bellows can extend upto 24 inches but it trips while retracting, so extending to 23 inches is better.

This is 50-60 years old camera and is heavily used, a restoration may be required to bring it back to its original glory. The fittings show dullness, the wooden body shows some amount of surface wear otherwise the camera is strong and sturdy. The Plate holder's one side door is taped in many places and the door comes off its frame, the other side door is in fairly good condition see pictures above.

The last two pics shown above are scans of photos taken by our previous Vageeswari field camera buyers. The first is a scan of the platinum process and the 2nd is the tin type process. Camera includes a 1) 6.25x6.25 inch lens board with 2.75 inch opening; & 2)Vageeswari plate holder, one side there are wooden removable reducing inserts. The plate holder is the unique book type dark slide, either side can be loaded with- glass plates, sheet film, sheet metal(for tin type) etc. EXTRAS- a)3 legged Tripod set -- $99.
