I'm the author of this book, detailing 173 men from ten villages in Leicestershire who gave their life during or as a result of the Great War. The intention is to increase awareness of these mens sacrifice, everyone was someones son, brother, husband or father - including my Great Uncle.


Once the fees from Ebay, Paypal and Royal Mail are paid ALL proceeds are being split between the local Royal British Legion branch and Help for Heroes who continue to work with modern day ex-servicemen and women.

The book features 8 pairs of brothers, three pairs of cousins and a father and son pair. There is the story of the 17 year old who lied about his age, the 62 year old wheelwright, the woman who lost both her husband and brother and numerous gallantry awards.

The villages covered are Bagworth, Ellistown, Heather, Ibstock, Nailstone, Newton Burgoland, Normanton-le-Heath, Odstone, Snarestone and Swepstone - 23 of the men don't feature on the local war memorials. The book forms a set of five detailing everyman from the North West of Leicestershire.
