This listing is for this priceless antique birthday book containing information on family members and ancestors that may not appear anywhere else!
UNIQUE! ONE OF A KIND!
BIRTHDAY BOOK WITH DATES OF BIRTH – some with places of birth and some with residence information! A resource for genealogical data!
Around the turn of the century, birthday books were treasured possessions and were used to record friends and family members’ birthday dates.
The book itself shows some gentle wear, but it is the birthday inscriptions that are priceless.
As an amateur genealogist and family history researcher, I know the value of items that were family possessions and contain data that may not be found elsewhere. Because of the value to future generations of researchers, I have taken the time to transcribe the entries to the best of my abilities and am including this data here.
This is THE LOWELL BIRTHDAY – BOOK. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Company. New York: 11 East Seventeenth Street. The Riverside Press, Cambridge. By James Russell Lowell. Published by Houghton Mifflin And Company. Copyright 1883. Containing 402 pages. Measures 5.5" by 4".
Brown cloth boards have beveled edges. Corners are worn through and edges rubbed. The lettering and decoration on front is faded. Front hinge has a 1" crack at bottom. One page is torn in half and the bottom half is laid in through it. Some pages have tattered edges. There is a tissue-guarded b&w plate at the start of each month. Overall condition is Good.
SURNAMES: Eldred, Clendemin, Kilboon, Booth, Quiggle and many more! Lots of Pennsylvania families for your genealogy research. Also appears to have ties to Elmira, Chemung Co., NY, Seattle, Washington and many other areas of the country.
Written on inside of book “How sweet how doubly sweet is solitude. But give to me some friend – in my retreat-To whom to say – Solitude is sweet.”
Next on inside flap is owner’s name Katherine Eldred.
