About the Author
David Miller is an Australian author and illustrator. He has written books and illustrated other people’s books. He is an artist in paper sculpture.
David Miller's illustration style is unique, with intricate sculptures photographed to bring stories to life. Paper had always fascinated him and he loved making things out of it.
David studied art at Swinburne in Melbourne. His first employer, one of Australia's leading designers at the time, introduced him to paper sculpture. Later he worked as an Art Director in advertising agencies before starting his own design and illustration studio.
In 1995, David wrote and illustrated a book called You Can Make Paper Sculpture. He was then asked to illustrate Mem Fox's book Boo to a Goose. The publisher was keen for him to write and illustrate another book so What's For Lunch? and Carousel were published.
Since then David has created more picture books, including Snap Went Chester (by Tania Cox) which was CBC Short-Listed Book, Refugees a CBC Honour Book, and Big and Me.
David's amazing paper sculptures from the book Millie's
Special Something, written by Tania Cox, was on exhibition at the Literature
Centre in Terms 3 and 4, 2013.
Very, very entertaining read!
JUST MAGIC!! .... I have just finished this book with Indy (4yrs). It's a beauty. Lovely illustrations which are more like intricate collages, really nice to look at. The illustrator/arranger is not credited, though. An engaging and simple rhyming story with an Aussie theme. I'm always in awe with what comes out of this shelf of mine, I did not know this book was there, had never seen it before! Indy is not one to sit still, so love to find a book that works for us. Recommended!
STUNNING ARTWORK ILLUSTRATES THIS BOOK .... A cute cut-paper offering from David Miller featuring Australian animalsand what they might be eating for lunch. The best, most detailed illustrations featured a kangaroo and joey, possum and koala; makes you marvel at the effort involved in this technique. I had to smile when I came to the page featuring the magpie as our tame trio were nearby in the garden, picking at leftover salad. No worms for them!
MAGNIFIQUE! …. David's work is
truly beautiful. And papercrafting inside a BOOK - well... papery heaven.
kid's review... We like the way you have made the illustrations. We decided to make our own pictures using paper.
AREN'T THESE COLLAGE ILLUSTRATIONS INCREDIBLE???!@??#
