About the Artist:
As a child Graciela was trained in two careers, as a musician and as a painter. At the age of 11 she enrolled in a school of fine arts, where she studied drawing and watercolor. At this time she was also studied piano with her mother, a concert pianist. At age 15 she spent a year in Chile studying at the National Conservatory of Music and at the Academy of Art. Two years later her studies took her to Vienna. Boulanger eventually chose to devote herself fully to painting. In 1962 she married a French diplomat, Claude Boulanger, and moved to Paris, although she spent many years abroad. The Latin Americian influence and ethic is still an integral part of her work. Her use of light and contrasting colors are reminiscent of her years spent in LaPaz, memories of her native country. Today her works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Zurich.
