Up for auction is one (1) original IBM Model F keyboard originally shipped with the PC/AT, which was introduced in 1984.
This unit has a total of 84 keys; they are the English Alphabet, numerals 1 through 0, all standard symbols and punctuation marks, space-bar, function keys 1 through 10 (F1~F10), enter (new line), 2 shift keys, backspace, 1 control, 1 alternate, capital lock (Caps Lock), escape, numeral lock, scroll lock, system request, asterisk, minus, plus, and tab keys. Note that this keyboard only has one (1) control and alternate keys (more recent ones have 2 each). Nor does this unit have F11 and F12 keys. See images annexed for layout and more details.
This unit is tested to be fully functional and thoroughly cleaned; there are no unresponsive keys or lights (three indicator lights total). This unit is compatible with all computers capable of interpreting Set 2 scan codes, which basically includes most x86 PCs running Windows. This unit is not compatible with the IBM PC (1981) and IBM PC/XT (1982), as well as their clones. This unit has very limited compatibility with Apple computers.
There are numerous scratches/scuffs on the case of this keyboard; there is one minor chip on the lower right side of the case. The cable is coiled and matte black, but there are some stains on its surface. Cushion feet on the case (the small black pads in the photo) are absent, but the flip-out feet are present and functional. All such defect are purely cosmetic and in no way affect keyboard functionality.
This unit uses a capacitative switch activated by IBM's (expired) patent-pending buckling spring design. If connected through the 5-pin DIN or 6-pin Mini DIN connector, this keyboard is capable of independently sensing all presses and releases on all keys. In more technical terms, this is noted as n-key rollover.
For this auction, I shall include a Belkin 5-pin DIN (AT) to 6-pin Mini DIN (PS/2) connector and an active 6-pin Mini DIN to USB adapter, at request. Note also that the 5-pin DIN connector is absent on many computers.
