In full working order and near mint cosmetic condition, this sampler could almost pass as new. It's had very little use as I never find the time to make music, hence it's sale. All buttons, volume pot and jog wheel work perfectly. Screen is nice and bright.
If you're looking at this you probably already know what a legendary piece of kit it is. The Emu Emulators are the ultimate old skool hardware sampler and are renowned for their AD/DA converters and Z-Plane filters that give them an inimitable sound, adding warmth and character to your samples that you just don't get with any software.
The E4XT Ultra was the best and last hardware sampler E-Mu ever made. It's often referred to as the king of all hardware samplers or the rolls royce of hardware samplers. Equipped with a lightning-fast 32-bit processor, 128 voice polyphony, 8 analog outputs, 32 MIDI channels and 128 MB of RAM it was E-Mu's flagship sampler with far better spec than the E5000 and E6400. It also has synthesis features including 2 LFO's and 3 envelope generators and an onboard sequencer so is really a hybrid between a sampler, synth and sequencer. What stands out about my E-Mu is the amount of upgrades and expansions it has. It's hard to even know where to start!
This E-Mu includes:
• RFX 32 - extremely rare and sought after stereo effects/mix card transforming the E4XT into way more than just a sampler. See sound on sound review here. I couldn't find any in the UK but one sold on US ebay for $495
here.
• 4 Channel Analog Input Option Card - again, very rare, this card allows the RFX 32 effects and legendary Z-Plane filters to be applied in real time! Impossible to find anywhere but easily worth £100-£200.
• Internal Compact Flash Card Reader + 16Gb CF Card! - installed into the floppy disc slot at the front this mod brings the E4XT into the 21st century! All the quality of a classic hardware sampler with the convience of importing wav files from your Mac/PC. I had to ship this in from the US as it's the only compatible card reader that is also hotswappable, meaning there's no need to switch the machine off to insert/remove card. This mod works flawlessly and cost around £100 + £40 for CF card.
• Orbit/Phatt Sound Flash - over 500 sounds and presets including some very nice bass and synth sounds. I couldn't find one anywhere but a similar E-Mu sound ROM is currently on ebay for $200 here.
• Max out with 128Mb RAM
• 40Gb internal IDE HD - FAT formatted including samples.
• Keyboard - a must have, allowing faster naming of samples and quick navigation. Also prevents the buttons on the front wearing out from use.
• Loaded with EOS 4.7 including floppy discs - the last and best operating system allowing the machine to read wav files and FAT 32 formatted drives.
• Emu sample CD's - Complete EIIIX Sound Library Vol.1-8. The E-Mu factory samples are renowned for their quality and this set includes everything from orchestral strings, brass, piano, percussion, vintage synths, world instruments and more. These sell on ebay for around £10 per disc.
• Original manuals for E4XT and RFX 32
Power cord and original rack ears also included.
As you can see these mods and upgrades are worth the starting price alone. This bundle would have cost almost £4,000 when it was new!
I'm also including the original Sony floppy disc drive, not that you will ever need it - why use floppy's to transfer samples when you can use ultra fast CF cards right!? Another nice thing about the the CF drive is it effectively means you no longer need an internal HD. Sure you can still use the HD to back up samples, but you can easily disconnect it and just use CF cards for super quiet operation. It will take CF cards up to 128Gb.
