A unique, fascinating computer graphics workstation from the early 1980s in nearly perfect condition!

Due to their advanced color graphics capabilities, NEC Advanced Personal Computers were used extensively by the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for their early research on climate modeling in the 1980s.  They have also been used (even recently) in industrial CAD/CAM applications, for controlling machine tools, and for general office use.

This is the high-end model that includes the color graphics card and color CRT options, and dual 8" floppy disk drives.

This computer was purchased new in 1983 for over $4,000.00.  It was used very lightly for 2 years, then stored in the original box. The plastic case has yellowed some, but otherwise the computer is in original condition.  It starts up fine, displaying the ready-to-load OS prompt "*".  I successfully loaded both the CP/M and MS-DOS operating systems (see photos).  Disk reading was intermittent -- this may be due to the age of the floppy disks.  Cleaning the disk drive heads is recommended.

The following software is supplied on 8" floppy disks:

MS-DOS operating system
CP/M-86 operating system
APC TEST ROUTINES
DBASE II database manager
Benchmark word processor
Turbo Pascal programming language
DRI BASIC programming language
MICROPLAN spreadsheet
VEDIT 86 visual text editor
Zork 1 adventure game.

Two unused, blank floppy disks will also be provided.

All the original manuals are available (see photos).  In addition to software documentation, these include full schematics and a maintenance manual.  If you want some or all of these manuals, they will be shipped for the actual cost of whatever shipping method you want (book/media rate is probably cheapest).

Free local pickup available (Washington, DC).
