For sale here today is a used Gibson SG Special guitar, made in Nashville, Tennessee in 2005. I am looking for a Telecaster to accompany my Strat, and I have to let go of this axe in order to afford one.

Here are the specs
-All-mahogany body and glue-on mahogany neck
-polyurethane finish on body
-22 fret neck, granadillo fingerboard (a substitute for rosewood, which has been causing Gibson trouble in foreign countries with stricter environmental laws), white dot inlays
-headstock angled at 17 degrees, silk screened Gibson logo, SG truss rod cover
-Gibson deluxe tuners-Gibson 490r neck pickup (the same neck pickup in the standard SG)
-Gibson 490t bridge pickup (essentially the same used in the SG Standard. The SG Standard uses a slightly overwound 498t for a slightly higher output)
-tune-o-matic bridge with stop bar tailpiece
-Made in America!
(This guitar is completely stock)

On clean, the bridge pickup on this guitar produces a nice, bright telecaster sound (almost too bright, you might need to dial it down a little with the tone knob). The middle combination gives you a nice country twang, almost like a Strat. On clean, the neck pickup is more of a decoration. It's just too chunky.

On OD however, the neck pickup turns into a monster! Currently, I am using a $15 amp and a $40 distortion pedal and I can still wail along to the solo in "don't fear the reaper". The middle combination gives you pretty standard distortion, good all around. The bridge pickup is better for power chords and brassier stuff.

The body on this guitar is only about an inch to an inch and a half thick, and is very lightweight and comfortable. The knobs and selector switch are out of the way, yet still easy to reach. My only complaint about this guitar's body is the fact the strap attachment is on the back of the guitar, sort of like where it would be on a hollowbody guitar. Playing with a strap can sometimes be uncomfortable.

There are scratches on the body, to be expected on an 8-year-old guitar, but none go further than the finish. The bridge pickup volume knob ha a crack in it, but it can be easily pulled off and replaced (new knobs cost around $3, they'll probably put the on at the guitar shop for free). THE GUITAR WAS DUSTY WHEN I TOOK THE PHOTOS. THE WHITE SMUDGES ON THE BACK ARE FINGERPRINTS.

Playability wise, you can gig with this thing right out of the box. However, a set-up is necessary to get the most out of your new Gibson.

The guitar  comes with a creepy coffin case, which i will be glad to get out of the house.

This link will take you to the Gibson site, which has much more information on the SG Special than I could ever recall off of the top of my head!
