Overview
This is a beautiful example of the iconic and game changing Omega Cosmic Moonphase dating from 1952. This stunning example has a delicious steel case and gold capped top with only the most minimal signs or wear - the delicious rounded case back is as close to perfect as we've seen. The original Omega signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is just breathtaking. The applied gilt (gold colour) spear head batons with applied gilt Arabic numbers at the quarters and the original gilt hour and minute hands along with the steel 'day' hand all combine to create an outstanding looking piece. The Day and Date are in black and the outer day ring in blue. The sun and moon phase completes this awesome and trailblazing watch. The very high grade Omega signed 17 jewel manual wind movement has just been serviced by my professional watchmaker. The watch sits on a new high quality dark brown Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap with a gold plated after-market Omega buckle. The month pusher is sitting slightly proud of the case and this will be repaired prior to sale.
My asking price is below the value
for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise
in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade
Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement,
which is long enough for you to assess the working order. Also, I offer a full
refund if you are not entirely happy, as long as the watch is returned within
seven days for the UK, twelve days if overseas, in the same condition.
The Case
The large crisp steel
case with gold capped top is in excellent condition with only the most minor wear. With the Omega signed winding crown and polished gold capped top/lugs and matt sides/polished steel back it’s in
excellent condition. The case measures 34mm's wide, excluding the Omega signed
winding crown and 41mm's, including the lugs. The inside case is signed
‘Patent Acier Staybrite’, ‘Omega Watch Company’, ‘Fab
Suisse Swiss Made’ and has the case number of ’2606-4′.
The Dial
The original Omega signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is just breathtaking. The applied gilt (gold colour) spearhead hour batons with Arabic numbers at the quarters and blue outer day ring blend beautifully to create a stunning piece. With the delicious sun and moonphase, gilt 'sword' hour and minute hands along with the steel 'day' hand it's just beautiful. It is signed ‘Omega’ and ‘Swiss Made’.
The Movement
The high grade Omega signed manual wind movement has just been serviced by my professional watchmaker and is running beautifully. It is signed ‘Omega Watch Co Swiss’ and ‘Seventeen 17 Jewels’. It has the movement reference of 12,593,134 dating it to 1952.
The Strap
As mentioned, it sits on a new, high quality, dark brown Hirsch & Sonning Vintage Watches crocodile skin strap and after-market gold plated Omega buckle.
The Conclusion
This is a beautiful and extremely rare watch from one
of history’s most famous names and will provide an excellent financial
investment as well as a possession to treasure and enjoy. I will provide an
insurance valuation in excess of my asking price. Please appreciate the difficulty
of photographing this piece, it looks even better in real life. Subject to your
location I’ll happily show the watch. I’m happy for this watch to be
authenticated if required. Please ring me if you have any questions: Chris
