| The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is 102 square miles of the best Africa has to offer. All the main players can be found here within the crater walls. I call it the "big five playpen". As well as it's concentration of wildlife, it has a diversity of landscape. This painting is from the edge of one of the lakes on the floor of the crater. We were actually admiring a family of hippo lying in the shallows, surrounded by flamingos that line the lake with a ring of pink. Then a herd of zebras came splashing in, causing an explosion of pink as the flamingos took flight! ~Julia Rogers. |
