Highly oriented forms of high-purity pyrolytic graphite, Momentive’s graphite monochromators are designed to diffract X-rays and neutrons with greater efficiency than any other known material.
Highly oriented pyrolytic graphite is a unique form of carbon manufactured by first making pyrolytic graphite using chemical vapor deposition via pyrolysis of a hydrocarbon gas at very high temperature in a vacuum furnace. This pyrolytic graphite is then annealed at high temperature under intense pressure that results in long range ordering and hence a low mosaic spread angle.
Applications
- Graphite monochromators
- X-Ray diffraction
- Neutron scattering and diffraction
- Scanning probe microscopy
Features
- Low mosaic spread angle
- Stable to 3000 °C
- Impermeable
- Chemically inert
- High purity
- Anisotropic electrical and thermal characteristics
