Vintage Gibsons Staffordshire teapot, black & gold floral chintz, gilt 1930s-50s.
A Gibsons England teapot from their gilt floral "Georgian" range - a black and gold floral pattern over a cream ground, sitting above a fully gadrooned band of bright gold gilt, with matching gilt spout, handle and lid finial. Pattern number marked to the underside of the lid. 25cm wide, 14cm tall.
Gibson & Sons of Burslem spent nearly a century making little else but teapots, and became one of the best-known names for gilded teaware on ordinary British breakfast tables.
Good condition, with fine crazing to the glaze throughout (normal for its age) and just light wear to the gilt; no chips or cracks.
Made in Staffordshire, England, circa 1930s-50s. A bit of Hollywood Regency sparkle for the tea table.
