Original Signed Modern Expressionist Rock Form Landscape Study Oil Painting

Description: An excellent modernist landscape oil painting on artist's board dating circa 1980, framed - approx 23 x 20 inches (59 x 51 cm). This excellent landscape sits well with the modernism of Cezanne and Picasso capturing a rich and colourful rocky landscape. A broken cliff lending itself to an almost cubist treatment dominates the composition simultaneously solid and dynamic as the cracks and fissures present a texture in light and dark, pigments from pale pink to the almost blood red, iron and sandstone, the artist having used thick oils to create depth and texture. A Cyprus tree stands to the foreground on a grass covered hill and rising beyond is a dramatic escarpment a woodland horizon balancing the composition beneath a purple pink sky. Date: The acrylic dates circa 1990.

Framing: Contemporary plain moulded Pine. Finish: Gilt. Mounted on board with an off-white mount.

Condition: Excellent. The oil is set behind glass and in excellent original condition. The frame has suffered a scrape on the bottom edge and has one or two minor marks to the antiqued gilded finish.
